Signs of Ovulation and Pregnancy

If you are trying to get pregnant, you will probably want to know what signs and symptoms signal ovulation and indicate early pregnancy. Your ovaries normally release an egg about 14 days after the beginning of your period. The exact time of your ovulation may vary if your periods are irregular. Although the symptoms of ovulation can be difficult to detect, you may notice certain changes if you pay close attention. The same holds true for early pregnancy, the first indicators of pregnancy are subtle and may be easy to miss.

Vaginal Discharge

One sign that your body may be preparing to ovulate involves a change in the appearance and texture of your vaginal discharge. According to the Mayo Clinic, normal secretions can increase right before you ovulate. These secretions may remind you of raw egg whites. This discharge changes after ovulation, when it becomes sticky and cloudy or disappears.

Temperature Changes

If you are keeping track of your basil body temperature throughout your menstrual cycle, you may notice a slight increase during ovulation. Taking your temperature first thing in the morning, before you get out of bed, can provide a clue to the timing of your ovulation. Make a notation of your body temperature every morning to track the changes and notice when the increase occurs.

Pelvic Discomfort

Some women experience a sensation of discomfort or pain when they ovulate. You may notice a slight cramping or twinges in your lower abdomen around the time of ovulation.

Implantation Bleeding

If your ovulation results in a fertilized egg, you may notice some light bleeding caused by the embryo implanting into your uterine wall. This sign of pregnancy can be slight spotting, or it may cause some cramping and could even resemble a light period. Not all pregnant women have this symptom, but if you have been trying to get pregnant and notice some vaginal spotting shortly before your anticipated period, you may be experiencing this symptom of early pregnancy.

Breast Changes

An early sign of pregnancy involves changes in your breast tissues. You may notice a tender feeling and a feeling of fullness in your breasts. Your bra may feel a little tight; you may experience moments of discomfort and sensitivity in this area.

Morning Sickness

Nausea and vomiting can occur as early as two weeks after conception. Don’t let the name fool you. Although many pregnant women experience nausea soon after they get out of bed, you may become sick anytime during the day or night. Keep in mind that other conditions, such as stress, illness and common indigestion, can also mimic these symptoms.
