Why Are LED Lights Good?

December 10, 2010 by ds_65371 Leave a Comment

Many ecoconcious moms are hopping on the LED bandwagon and replacing their traditional lights with these more energy-efficient options. While traditionally more expensive than some other light options, LED bulbs provide an assortment of benefits to users. Before you make your next light-related purchase, consider some of the main reasons for selecting LED bulbs so that you can make a more informed decision as to what bulb type to place in your cart.

Durability

While traditional light bulbs are notorious for breaking, LED bulbs can stand up to a bit more rough use. If your child is prone to knocking lamps off of end tables or hitting your light bulbs with the occasional tossed toy, consider replacing your current lights with less breakable LED ones. By doing so, you may be able to prevent some shattering and keep your kids safe from broken glass.

Lifespan

As EarthEasy reports, you will not need to place LED bulbs as often as you do standard incandescent bulbs. These bulbs last 10 times longer than traditional light bulbs, saving you money on replacement costs and keeping you from adding quite so many used bulbs to the landfill.

Safety Features

Moms concerned about safety may appreciate the safety features that set LED bulbs apart from the rest. Unlike in traditional light bulb manufacturing, no mercury is used in the manufacturing of LED bulbs. Additionally, these bulbs do not get as hot as standard light bulbs, potentially protecting your tot’s tiny fingers from a few burns.

Light on the Go

LED lights do not pull as much energy as standard bulbs, making them a great option for on-the-go lighting. These bulbs would work well with solar panels, as not as much sun power is required to keep them glowing. They also are ideal for use in battery-operated devices, as they do not pull as much power from your batteries, allowing them to stay juiced up longer.

Things to Consider

While LED lights do offer an assortment of benefits, there are some downsides to this lighting type. Aside from their higher cost, they often take longer to reach full brightness, making them less than ideal for places in which you require immediate illumination, such as a pantry or windowless bathroom.
