Kate Walsh: Actress and Advocate

October 11, 2010 by Madison Pados Leave a Comment

ModernMom recently got the chance to chat with the lovely Kate Walsh. You may know her better as the smart and sexy Dr. Addison Montgomery on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice.” What you may not know is that the real Kate is a kind hearted woman whose goal is to find a cure for breast cancer. Kate has teamed up with the “Cat Nap for the Cause” campaign to raise money for “Susan G. Komen for the Cure.”

Kate’s Inspiration

Kate’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Kate was 30-years-old. “It’s terrifying,” she says. Kate’s mom was one of the lucky ones. She has been a survivor for 12 years. Kate’s advice to those who have a loved one with breast cancer is to “just be there to support your family.” It’s such a difficult experience and you “feel so powerless over it,” she says. “My mom is super-strong, ” Kate gushes, “and a great example to me.”

Billy and Pablo

What else keeps Kate going in the morning? “Well,” she answers, “I’m not going to lie to you…My cats!” The gorgeous redhead has two cats, Billy and Pablo. “They’re there when I get out of bed in the morning (if they aren’t already laying on top of me),” she says with a chuckle. Of course, she adds, “My friends and family [keep me going] too.”

Take a Cat Nap

Kate decided to partner with “Cat Nap for the Cause” because she knows how important love and affection is to a breast cancer patient. “84 percent of breast cancer patients found great comfort in their cats,” she informs us. If you register to take a Cat Nap, Purina will donate two dollars to “Susan G. Komen for the Cure.” They’ve already donated $200,000! “It’s really fabulous” she says. So, don’t waste another second…Take a nap!
