Fashion File: Jump Into This
I have to admit that when I first saw jumpsuit after jumpsuit in all the store windows this season I thought I was taken back in a time capsule to the 70’s.
I thought this trend would never make it to the streets. Wow was I ever wrong!
Jumpsuits and rompers are everywhere you look this season and are flying out of the stores.
WATCH OUT MODERN MOMS… Jumpsuits are definitely this season’s newest trend and designers such as Alexander Mc Queen, YSL and Stella McCartney are putting them in this season’s collections.
Whether they are long or short, printed or plain, tight or flowy they are “jumping” out at us everywhere we look. From casual dress days to a night out on the town to celebrity red carpets, many women are wearing jumpsuits. What a great way to get that sexy look in a very comfortable way.
Wearing a jumpsuit can be challenging if you do not know how to choose a style that is best for your body type. For example you do not want to choose a lycra material if you have a fuller figure that may show some unwanted lumps and bumps. There are many different styles out there to make it easy for anyone to pull off this look.
Adding a belt or blazer is the perfect way to break up the look of a jumper if you are not comfortable with the onesie look. For a dressy look, pair them with heels and a matching clutch. For a more dressed down look, wear them with a pair of gladiators.
If you choose to wear a cropped or ¾ length jumpsuit, you want to pair them with heels to lengthen your legs. If you have long legs I recommend wearing a belt at your waist and a great pair of wedges or heels.
If you are built a little curvy or full figured, you can still pull off this trend by wearing a solid black jumpsuit like Jennifer Hudson has been wearing recently.
And, yes there are always the Do’s and Dont’s of Jumpsuits as there is any clothing piece you wear.
Just remember the basics, which are, DON’T wear a head to toe floral or loud pattern. You wouldn’t wear a floral top with floral pants together would you??
DO choose a solid color or sophisticated fabric.
There are plenty of jumpsuits out there to choose from.
Choose one that has wide leg pants with a forgiving fabric, like jersey, to make you look and feel more comfortable.
Remember this Jumpsuit Style is a fad, which means you do not have to spend an arm and a leg on your piece.
You can find just as great of a jumpsuit at Forever 21 or Express as you can at any designer store.
My picks are: Forever 21 black jumpsuit at $24, Victoria’s Secret Silk jumpsuit (in navy) at $63.99, Allen Schwartz jumpsuit $185.90 (this one is pictured at the very top of the page), Anthropologie jumpsuit $288, or you can always check out the Missoni jumpsuit that I snapped a photo of on Jewel.
Good Luck and Have Fun Jumping Around in your Jumpsuit!
