Summer Hairstyles

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

As there are for clothing, there are different types of hairstyles for every season. During the summer, women often make drastic changes to their hairdos in order to look different and to lessen the amount of maintenance. Many women prefer the carefree or airy looks that take only a few minutes to prepare each time they have to go somewhere. Taking cues from celebrities, women can choose the hairstyle that fits them best.

Cropped Bob

The majority of women opt for shorter hairstyles as the weather gets warmer. If there is a season that is best for a short hairstyle, it is undoubtedly summer. Shorter and more extreme than the classic or standard bob, the cropped bob gives women a new look without too much fuss. It allows women to get going just by washing, blow-drying with a round brush, and adding a spritz of hairspray.

Pixie Cut

For women who would prefer a no-fuss hairdo, the pixie cut is the best choice. It is a lot shorter than the cropped bob and requires less maintenance. When getting ready in the morning, busy women can just get into the shower and then use a towel to dry their hair. Or for faster drying time, they can use a blow-dryer on the cold or medium-heat setting for no more than three minutes. For an optional style, women can work just a small squirt of sculpting serum or mousse through their hair. When brushing, women should use a one-inch, round ceramic brush, pulling hair forward toward the face.

Straight and Sleek

Although most women prefer the shorter hairdos during the summer, some cannot part with their long hair. Women with long hair who would not want to go through with an extreme hairdo change can opt for the straight and sleek hairdo. Many salons can straighten hair by using hair-straightening chemicals to make the hair seem lighter and sleeker. After the hair procedure, the hair will feel softer, smoother and silkier. Even women with naturally straight hair can enhance their look with this type of hairstyle. The result is hair that is shiny and very straight.

Long and Flowing

Another style for long-haired women for the summer is the long and flowing look. This hairstyle allows women with long hair to take advantage of the length of their hair by accentuating it with a carefree look. This look differs from the straight and sleek one in that it adds a wavy appearance. To achieve this look, create two loose braids while your hair is still damp and then let it dry overnight. The next morning, carefully take it out without brushing the curled ends. Then, add a light mist of hold hairspray to make it last all day.
