Bandeau bathing suits are made with one important feature that sets them apart from other suits. The top of the suit is straight across and usually has no bands or straps. For the most part, it resembles a tube top with a separate or attached bottom, depending on if it is bikini style or one piece. This can make wearing it only appropriate for certain situations and body types. Here is how to know when and how to wear a bandeau.
Step 1
Wear a bandeau for sun tanning. Because this type of suit usually doesn’t have straps or cords, it will not leave tan lines on the shoulders or neck. For the best sun tanning look, choose bikini bandeaus that cinch between the breasts so that your cleavage gets tanned for when you wear low-cut tops and dresses. Or, tie a ribbon around the center of the bikini top to clench it between your breasts.
Step 2
Avoid wearing a bandeau for swimming. Since bandeaus have no shoulder straps to hold your top up, it will likely slip down as soon as you take a stroke. This also goes for any other athletic activity. Choose a suit that offers more support. If you already have this type of suit and can’t avoid activities, make sure that the suit is snug before you go out. If it is loose, simply turn it inside out, pinch the loose amount of fabric in the back and pin it.
Step 3
Choose a bandeau if you are small-chested. The tube of fabric highlights and widens the breast area if worn as a bikini. A strip of fabric across the chest and lower torso creates an hourglass figure. So, this type of suit works well for boyish-type figures.
Step 4
Adjust the top of your suit if you are flat-chested. Pinch the fabric between your breasts and pin it with a decorative pin or brooch. Otherwise the top will look like a bandage.
Step 5
Stay away from this type of suit if you are large in the breast area. The bandeau is not designed to hold up any amount of flesh. There is no underwire to keep large breasts from sagging and no support to keep the top from popping off. Even if the suit is the kind that has a ribbon or cord to tie around the neck , it is not going to accomplish holding up anything over a B-cup.
