How to Wax Your Legs

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Several options are available to have smooth, hair-free legs. Many women try shaving, depilatories and professional waxing. Purchase a wax-at-home kit at a pharmacy or discount store and follow these directions to enjoy smooth legs for a few weeks without having to deal with chemicals or paying high salon prices.

Step 1

Read the directions that came with your waxing kit thoroughly before you begin. Be sure that you have everything that you need within reach.

Step 2

Wash your legs with soap and water, then rub with a cotton ball moistened with witch hazel. Dry well with a clean towel.

Step 3

Melt the wax in your microwave or in hot water. Follow the directions on the package for the best melting method. Test the temperature of the wax on your wrist. It should be warm but not uncomfortably hot.

Step 4

Apply the wax to your legs with the spatula that came with the kit. Always apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. When waxing the knee, bend your leg and work in small sections, because the hair may grow in different directions.

Step 5

Press a strip of fabric onto your leg, and rub briskly.

Step 6

Remove the strip from your leg by pulling quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. Keep your hand very close to your skin, and do not lift the strip up into the air. Lifting the strip can cause tearing of the hair or of your skin. Repeat as needed to wax your entire leg.

Step 7

Use olive or baby oil to remove any wax remaining on your leg. Use tweezers to remove any leftover hairs on your leg.

Step 8

Rub an antiseptic cream or witch hazel on your legs to close your pores.
