Cool Gifts for Teens

November 29, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Finding a cool gift for a teen challenges even expert gift-givers. To avoid having the gift thrown into a pile of items that are never used, take into consideration the personality, style and interests of the recipient before making any purchases. Many common teen gift ideas offer ways to customize the item for a personalized gift-giving experience.

Electronics

A high price tag is often associated with electronic gadgets. Even if the budget is low, there are several options for teen gifts. A digital picture frame key chain allows the recipient to show off her favorite photos and costs around $20. USB gadgets that plug into the USB port of a computer offer fun gift options that range in price but typically stay at the lower end of the scale. Items such as fans, drink warmers, pencil sharpeners and mini fridges that hold a can of soda are options. If the gift budget is higher, electronics items such as video games, gaming systems, Kindle book readers, MP3 players and digital cameras are popular with many teens.

Artistic Gifts

If the recipient is an artistic or creative teenager, consider giving him a gift that embraces that trait. One option is a set of art supplies based on the recipient’s preferred medium. That might include paint, canvases, clay, sewing supplies, music or scrapbook material. Place the items in a reusable tote bag or storage container. Art-related books or a membership to a local art museum offer alternative gifts for the creative teen.

Event Tickets

Larger cities frequently feature concerts, sporting events, shows and other events that appeal to the hobbies and interests of teens. A pair of tickets to an event is a gift that is appreciated by many teens. It also allows him to take a friend along for an evening of fun. Make sure you select a concert or event that he will truly enjoy before investing in a pair of tickets.

Room Decor

A teen’s bedroom is her haven and says a lot about her personality. Room decor that fits her personality makes a practical and appealing gift for the recipient. Vinyl wall clings are a popular decorative option and come in many fun and creative designs, both feminine and masculine in style. Other options for room decor include framed prints, decorative floor pillows, fun lamps, a bright rug or new light fixtures for the ceiling. Keep the style of the recipient in mind before selecting room decor items as a gift.
