Kid’s Bathroom Decorating Ideas

January 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

While parts of your home may have a refined and sophisticated decorating scheme, your child’s bathroom can be a place for more creative or whimsical themes. Create a setting or a vibrant aesthetic by adding some simple accessories, or spend more time or money using paint, wall treatments, linens, furniture and accessories to fully redesign your child’s bathroom.

Beach Bathroom

Evoke the coast with a beach theme for your child’s bathroom decor. Paint and finishes can have the rustic feeling of a beach cottage, with white paint on wide wooden panels. For a brighter beach theme, go Caribbean style with lime green, mango orange or sunshine yellow walls, and paint the ceiling a brilliant sky blue. Darker cobalt and bottle green create the look of the ocean. Accessorize with linens, window treatments and a shower curtain printed with shells, waves, sea horses or surfboards. Ocean items such as starfish, coral, shells, river rocks and driftwood may line a floating shelf or open cabinet.

Jungle Bathroom

A jungle theme brings a touch of the wild to kids’ bathroom decor. A wallpaper mural of a tropical rain forest gives an accent wall graphic pop. A jungle color scheme includes dark brown, deep green, spring green, mango orange, persimmon, red and any jewel tones that have the look of jungle flora and fauna. Leafy green plants, bamboo stalks, sisal mats and vines are ideal accents. Keep curtains light and translucent to allow natural light to spill inside. Bath linens in sage green, off white or deep brown work well in a kid’s jungle bathroom.

Bright and Bubbly Bathroom

Some fun bathroom themes for kids involve color, shapes and patterns more than a setting. Paint your bathroom a crisp, blue-based white, icy pink or periwinkle as a backdrop for bubble patterns. Circular wall decals in different sizes create a bright contrast. Place them in an asymmetrical arrangement across the wall and bathroom ceiling, to give the look of floating bubbles. Accent some of the bubbles’ colors with your bath linens, or stick with white for a more modern look. A rounded sink, tub, soap dispenser, toothbrush holder or soap dish extend the theme. Cover the light fixture with a bright Chinese paper or silk spherical lantern to finish the look.
