Ideas for a Baby Gift Basket

If you’re looking for a gift for the new baby of a friend or family member, giving a gift basket is an adorable and thoughtful way to welcome a new baby into this world. In addition, a gift basket is an ideal gift if you are having a tough time deciding what to give. The fun part is choosing what to put inside the gift basket. Options are plentiful, ranging from simple and frugal to the sophisticated and expensive.

Diaper Changing Needs

A baby goes through several diaper changes in a day, which can put a dent in the parent’s budget. Filling a gift basket with diaper changing needs such as diapers (cloth or disposable), diaper pins or clips (for cloth diapers), baby wipes and rash ointments can help new parents save on expenses. Buying packs of different sizes ensures the supply of diapers will fit the baby as he grows.

If your budget allows, add a changing pad and diaper bag. Put the gifts inside the diaper bag instead of the traditional gift basket. This way, you do not have to worry about buying a basket big enough to hold all the contents. Prepare the bag as you would prepare a gift basket. Leave the zipper open, and then wrap the diaper bag with cellophane and ribbons.

Bathing Essentials

Give a basket filled with bathing essentials and items for the baby’s hygiene needs. Put towels, sponge, baby soap, shampoo, lotion and powder. Include cotton balls, cotton swabs, nail clippers and hairbrush. You can add fun to baby’s bath time by including rubber toys and bubble blowers. Including a robe will give parents something to wrap the baby in after a bath.

Give a baby bath tub if your budget permits. You can use the tub to hold all the items instead of using a traditional basket.

Learning and Entertainment

A basket filled with fun things a baby can play with during the early stages of development can offer a baby hours of enjoyment. Rattles, musical crib mobile, plastic alphabet blocks, plush animals, small activity center, plastic cars or dolls can give a baby from day through the toddler years several hours of fun and enjoyment. The parents can use these gifts to help develop their baby’s motor skills.

You might also include assorted baby books, music CDs and baby puzzles. Find plush or plastic baby books that do not have sharp edges that the baby can hold. Adding a portable CD player will allow both parents and baby enjoy music time together. According to the National Association of Child Development, “music can nurture a universal wish for health for all children by giving them a melody of calm and relaxed alertness, which resonates throughout the body, mind and soul.”
