What Are the Pros & Cons of Taking Acai Berry?

March 30, 2016 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Throughout the world, people consume acai berries in the effort to maintain better health. Acai berries contain high levels of antioxidants, which promote better health. In 2010, the most popular ways to consume the acai berry was in juice, carob bars or by just eating the berries. Those who promote the health benefits of acai berries believe there are several benefits to their use, while those who are not advocates believe there are certain risks involved in their consumption.

Antioxidants

Because the acai berry contains flavonoids and anthocyanins, it is rich in antioxidants which promote a youthful appearance. Foods rich in antioxidants are believed to combat the aging process both inside the body and through the skin. Antioxidants also help promote cell growth and development and help fight the natural aging process of skin and organs.

Weight Loss

Acai has often been cited as one of the super foods, deemed to speed up the metabolism and enhance weight loss. A consumer report from the Health News 6 website volunteered to try the super food combined with a cleansing solution for weight loss and reported successful results.

Allergies

While the acai berry is a fruit, you may think that it is safe for everyone to consume. It is important to remember that you can develop an allergy to the acai berry. Just as other fruits create varying degrees of reactions in those who are allergic, the acai berry is capable of producing similar results if you are allergic to it. Because of this, it is recommended that if you have an allergy to any fruit, discuss taking acai berry with a physician before beginning its use.

Not a Cure-All for Weight Loss

The acai berry has been reported by the Facts About Metabolism website to help the body burn calories more effectively during exercise. It is a mistake, however, to depend solely on the acai berry for your weight loss regimen. Women who do so may find themselves eating large amounts of high-caloric foods, which will sabotage their weight loss attempts.
