How to Conceive After Ortho Evra

After being on the Ortho Evra birth control patch for awhile, you and your partner decided it was time to start a family. It has been a few months, however, and you are still not pregnant. Knowing what you can do to enhance your chances of conception will help you land in the delivery room as quickly as possible.

Step 1

Stop using the Ortho Evra birth control patch. Remove it and alert your doctor that you plan to become pregnant.

Step 2

Determine your ovulation patterns. Use a calendar to mark the first and last day of each period for several months. Now count the days between starting and the next start date. Typically, it will be approximately 28 days, which means you are most fertile around the 14th day since your last period began. Each woman’s body is different, however, so make sure you chart your own cycle and move on the calendar to the half way point for your particular cycle pattern.

Step 3

Have sex as often as possible, especially during the few days you believe you are most fertile. Continue having sex throughout the month, in case your calculations are off during your fertile period. Have sex on a daily basis during the week leading up to ovulation and continue daily sex during those few fertile days.

Step 4

Keep your weight within a healthy target range. Make sure you are exercising on a daily basis. Exercise will help boost your metabolism. Eat nutritious foods to keep your body in top shape. Focus on fruits, vegetables, lean meats and low-fat dairy products. Add a multivitamin to ensure you are getting all the nutrients that your body needs.

Step 5

Quit smoking. Not only is it bad for your overall health, but nicotine changes the mucus make-up in your cervix and makes it more difficult for the sperm to get to your waiting eggs.

Step 6

Be patient. In most cases, women can conceive without medical intervention within the first 12 months of trying. Becoming tense and nervous about it can inhibit the joy of trying and can slow the possibility of success. It can take several months after stopping the Ortho Evra birth control patch to become fertile.

Warnings

  • If you have not had success within six months of stopping the patch, consult with your doctor to be sure everything is all right.
