Peek-a-boo can be a fun game for infants, but it’s a tired exercise for worn-out bra straps. Unless you are going for that trampy Halloween look, you need to tame those bra strap flyaways. Keep them under control and be confident that your outfit reflects the mature, fashion-forward woman you have become.
Choosing
When purchasing a new bra for your outfit, think first about the purpose of the ensemble. An interview suit should hide a powerful, professional bra, while a date outfit should be supported by a flirty, demure bra. For the business world, search for a simple bra that fully supports your breasts without being flashy. For a more casual look, you can choose a push-up or lacy bra. Whichever option you choose, select cups and a band that fully support your breasts. You should be able to take off your straps without losing the whole bra. Straps should sit securely on your shoulders, without digging in or falling off. This will prevent an embarrassing peek-a-boo in a date or interview.
Matching
Consider the fabric and color of the outfit you are wearing. Satin, light linens and other breathable fabric can let air, as well as light, move through. In the bright sun or fluorescent lights, your straps might show up as lines down your shoulders and chest. Turn on the lights in bedroom or step outside with the bra and shirt on and check in a mirror before you leave. This is also a concern with light-colored fabrics like whites and light yellows. Nude or skin-colored bras, without excessive lace, meld with your skin, keeping everyone from a little brassiere peep show.
Wearing
Give yourself some time after putting on your bra and shirt, before you leave the house. The bra might hold together for the first few minutes at the vanity or in the bedroom but slip later as you go about the day’s business. After you put on the outfit, you should move around, reach up and down and stretch from side to side. If you shirt shifts or your bra straps move to peek out, try a new bra. Fixing your shirt or outfit all day draws everyone’s attention to a poor-fitting outfit, rather than your intelligence and insight. A strapless bra may be the ticket with tank tops and sleeveless outfits. Just make sure it doesn’t slip. It may be even more embarrassing to hike up your bra all day.
