“Alexander Designs” Drop-Slide Cribs at JCPenny Recalled

Alexander Designs Ltd. brand drop-side cribs, sold exclusively to JCPenny, have been recalled due to entrapment suffocation and fall hazards.

The drop-side rail hardware on the cribs can break or fail, which allows the drop side to detach from the crib, creating a dangerous gap between the drop-side rail and the crib mattress in which babies can get trapped. This poses risks of suffocation and strangulation. Also, children can fall out of the crib when the drop-side rail falls unexpectedly or detaches from the crib. Drop-side rail failures also can happen due to incorrect assembly or with age-related wear and tear.

CPSC has received two reports of incidents involving malfunctions in the drop-side cribs, but no injuries were reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the cribs and order a free repair kit that will immobilize the drop-side rail.
