Fun At-Home Date Night Ideas

July 27, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

You don’t have to go out and break the bank to have a hot date. Many of the coziest, most romantic, dates can occur within the comfort of your own home. Instead of hitting the town and mixing and mingling, keep your date night focused on you and your partner by setting up a seductively simple at-home date. After all, if you keep your date at home, you are never far from the bedroom.

Painting Studio

If you think your relationship is a work of art, consider seeing what aesthetically attractive pieces you and your partner can produce. Try something different by having some artistic fun with your lover. Purchase some paints and canvases as well as an assortment of brushes. Throw down some drop cloths and light some candles. Pour some wine and sip away with your partner as you both try your hand at copying the artistic masters.

Paper Crane Parade

Turn your home into a seductive scene for your date night with an assortment of paper cranes. Origami cranes are easy to make and can add an element of whimsy to your decor. Using colored paper, fold an abundance of origami cranes. Place your cranes all over your dining room and bedroom. Hang some from the ceiling, set some on the table, nestle one or two among a bouquet of flowers. This thoughtful at-home date addition shows your partner that you love him and that you are willing to do some work–and risk paper cuts–to set the scene for romance.

Movie with the Works

Save some money on an expensive pair of movie tickets and show a feature at home for your date night. Pick up an assortment of romance-inducing flicks, pop some popcorn, chill some soda and buy a collection of candies. Cover your couch in a velvety blanket to simulate cushy movie theater chairs. Dim the lights and light some candles to create the right atmosphere.

Scavenger Hunt

Add some excitement to your date night with a scavenger hunt. Before the guy in your life arrives home, create a series of clues for him to follow. Using paper cut into the shape of hearts, compose clues that lead your lover around the house. Place your clues leading one to the next. Put treats with some clues, such as heart-shaped chocolates, to keep the excitement going. At the end of the hunt, place a special gift or romantic set-up to delight your partner. The work you put into setting up this clever hunt for your partner will be well worth it as you watch him follow the carefully planned clues with delight.

Us in Pictures

Spice up your standard decor for your next at-home date night by creating an “Us in Pictures” collage. Collect an assortment of images of you and your partner throughout the years. Take these classic pics to a photo shop and have them blown up to poster size images. Scatter these images across the walls of your dining room to create an inviting backdrop for a festive and romantic night in.
