How to Make a Two-Tiered Diaper Cake

Diaper cakes are a creative way to give mothers-to-be a useful gift. You simply use diapers–either cloth or disposable–to create a large tiered cake. If you’ve seen a diaper cake, you may feel intimidate by the process. The finished product looks intricate. However, they are actually quite easy to make. As long as you have the right supplies, you can create a diaper cake. The size varies based on the number of diapers that you use.

Step 1

Roll up the diapers, one at a time. Lay the diaper flat in front of you. Roll it up tightly. Secure each with a rubber band.

Step 2

Place about seven rolled diapers around the bottle of shampoo. Secure this with a rubber band. At this point, the diapers will surround the bottle, but the top will stick out from the middle.

Step 3

Create another layer of diapers around the first circle. This expands the circle. You will probably need about 20 diapers to do this. Secure with a large rubber band.

Step 4

Make the top layer of the diaper cake. Create another layer to the diaper cake over your inner circle. Again, you’ll need about seven diapers to do this. Secure them with a rubber band.

Step 5

Cover the rubber bands with wide ribbon.

Step 6

Add other small baby toys, if desired. Using thin ribbon, you can also tie on other small baby toys or items. You can also hide things in the layers of diapers or cover the whole cake with a blanket before wrapping it with the large ribbons.

Warnings

  • Do not use tape on the diaper cake, especially if you are using disposable diapers. This could ruin the diapers.
