Mini Apple Pies in a Jar

March 2, 2017 by JudyandJoy Leave a Comment

This week, we’ve got an adorable and easy idea from the Twice Baked Twins for mini apple pies that look as good as they taste!

“These delicious little gems are a delightful surprise when served to any guest, but make a great gift as well. They can be frozen before or after they are baked to make entertaining even easier!”

Supplies

  • 1/2 pint canning jars, any brand. We used wide mouth jars.
  • Prepared pie dough, room temperature
  • Prepared apple pie filling or your favorite apple filling recipe
  • Coarse sugar for garnish
  • 1/4 cup cream, for sugar to stick to crust
  • Ribbon for decorating

Directions

Wash jars, set aside. Flour a work surface and roll out the prepared pie dough.

Using the lid of the jar, push through the dough and lift it out. Place into the bottom of the jar. Cut about a 8 inch strip of dough, 2 inches wide, and line the jar.

Now the jar is completely covered with dough. Place approximately a 1/2 cup of filling into the jar. If using a lattice design, cut small strips of dough and weave to create a pattern.

Brush lattice with pastry brush dipped in cream and then sprinkle with course sugar. Or simply your favorite crumble recipe piled on top and even a fall leaf cut out of dough!

Bake at 350F for 35-45 minutes. If tops are burning, cover loosely with foil.

Tie a pretty ribbon around the jar, and add any fun and festive accessories you can think of!
