7 Ways To Work Out While You’re Waiting At The Airport

December 20, 2016 by LanaTitus Leave a Comment

Summer is upon us which means fun travel, but also a lot of time spent sitting.

My advice? Make the most out of every moment while traveling. It will help you burn the calories you need to say “yes” to that extra piece of pie and have the energy you need to keep up with your little ones after all they’ve had their fill of dessert!

Get a good full workout in the day before you travel – either at home, at the gym or elsewhere. That way the next day when you are on the plane or driving in the car, you will feel better.

Make an effort to get up and move AT LEAST every hour. If you are driving, do laps around the car while the gas tank is filling up or you are grabbing food. On a plane, get up and walk up and down the aisle a few times.

Here are a few things you can do in your seat when you’re on the plane or waiting at the airport:

1. Calf raises

2. Knee holds (bring your knee into your chest and alternate)

3. Practice good posture by putting your back against the seat and sucking your belly button into your spine. It will also work your abs.

4. Sit up straight in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Tighter your glutes (butt muscles) for 5 to 10 seconds. relax, and repeat 5 to 10 times. You can do this on the plane also.

5. When you are waiting at the airport, take advantage of the space before you board and MOVE! Do laps around the airport terminal. Pushing a stroller with you can make it a full body workout and if you walk at a quick speed, you will be surprised how quickly your heart rate will go up.

6. Make it fun for the kids by playing “I spy” or “dodge the people.” The last timeI l played this game with my kids at the airport, I got a 30 minute workout, my heartrate was up and I had a good sweat going! Older kids can walk along with you – it’s a great way to wear them out before they get on the plane or in the car and have to sit.

7.Take the stairs, lift that carry on bag, work your arms. Who cares if people look! They’ll be looking again when you are rocking your bikini!
