Sugar Ray’s lead singer is finally getting hitched-and having kids. Twins, so be specific! Mark McGrath told PEOPLE he is expecting a boy and a girl this May with his longtime love, Carin Kingsland. The couple have been dating on and off for 16 years!
McGrath, 42, proposed to Kingsland, 37, in the Viper Room, the same place he met her long ago. He told PEOPLE, “The first thing I said to her when I met her was, ‘I think I love you.'” After taking her back to the venue recently, he told her,”Well after 16 years, I know I love you. Will you marry me?” How cute is that? (I can’t believe his original pick-up line worked!)
When will the couple tie the knot? “We love the idea of getting married on 10/10/10,” says McGrath, “but the twins might have another idea.”
McGrath is “so excited” for the twins. But he is also a little panicked. “Most parents are like, ‘Oh, the wonders of child rearing. But we’re freaking out! The first year is going to be gnarly.'”
In all seriousness, he can’t wait. “I love them already, but I need them to come out so I can really shower them with love,” McGrath says with a smile.
