Celebs Nicole Richie and Joel Madden opened a new playground Tuesday in Los Angeles. The play area was built in L.A.’s low income housing “Beyond Shelter”. The couple’s 2-year-old daughter Harlow could not play on the new playground because of the terrible weather.
The couple pledged to raise $35,000 for a new playground through the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation in September of 2008.
According to PEOPLE, Richie stated “When we first started coming here, there were no kids outside. To see the place come to life and have a place to come outside and be kids, and have their imaginations run wild, it’s really awesome.”
In addition, the couple also announced that they will be teaming with 7-11’s Coffee Cup with a Cause. They will donate proceeds from a coffee cup designed by Richie until March 15. There is a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000. Benji Madden, Joel’s brother, will also be a part of the team.
