New Year, New Ways to Save Money

Let’s start out the New Year being better people, better savers and smarter shoppers!

My own journey so far has taught me a lot and I love to be able to share what I learn with others. So here are some ways I have learned to save. I hope they’ll be helpful for you as well!

Use Coupons

You really can save money using coupons. The challenge is to learn how to make it work for you. You can visit my coupon page, which is filled with new coupons each day that you can print and use.  Also note: If you are new to couponing, scroll to the bottom of the page and watch our tutorial video.

Get Stuff for Free

It is amazing how many companies will give you something free, just for the asking.  We are in search of freebies every day and they really are out there!  One of the easiest ways to get freebies is by signing up for company’s newsletter.  For example, Kohl’s sends you a $5 coupon when you sign up for their e-mails.  Companies will also send you discounts or free coupons for your birthday. The ways to get freebies is endless!

Earn Money Taking Surveys

Of all the ways to save and earn that I cover, surveys are the most controversial.  The reason for this is that, unfortunately, there are many scams out there.  I’ve taken the time to research companies and share with my readers only the legitimate companies, and honestly, I was able to make around $1,100 in 2011, just by taking surveys.

Live Within Your Means

This can be so hard in our society today, and even I struggle with this from time to time.  But, just as a reminder, ask yourself if you really need the item.  Will purchasing this item put you into debt in a way that will be stressful to you further down the line?  Is it really worth it to have it now?  I did a cheap redo of my kitchen last summer (painting, resurfacing my cabinets).  I visited my local hardware store and dreamed about a new counter top.  What was wrong with my old one?  Nothing, but I really wanted a new one.  In the end, I decided that if I wanted it that bad, I would save for it and pay cash.  In the end, I know I made the right decision.

Let’s make this year, the year of savings!

What are your New Year’s savings resolutions?  I would love to hear them!
