Saturday Night Live Prepares to Salute Moms

Betty White is set to host Saturday Night Live on May 8th. The 88-year-old Golden Girls and Mary Tyler Moore Show star was the subject of a grass-roots campaign to get her the hosting job. After the super bowl, a Facebook campaign was created to convince the NBC crew to hand over the mic to White. And that they did.

White does not have any children of her own, but the pre-Mother’s Day episode will feature appearances from 6 alumni, all of whom are moms. The ever-popular Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch will all reunite for the episode. SNL’s creator-producer, Lorne Michaels, explains to the USA Today White’s Mother’s Day appearance,  “She’s the mother of us all in comedy.”

Michaels also commented on White’s age. “Mind you, at our show, Pardo’s 92,” he said in reference to the announcer. “A couple people in wardrobe are older than him. So she’s a spring chicken in our world.”

Go Betty, go! We hope the salute to moms everywhere is done well. We know it will be hysterical with Betty in charge and 6 funny moms to back her up!
