Katie Courics Potential Gig Change

There has been a lot of buzz around Katie Couric’s rumored move from the CBS newsroom. The anchor, and mom to Ellie and Caroline, is said to be frustrated with her current gig and is in talks with CNN and other news outlets, according to TMZ.

Usually a move like this wouldn’t be such a big deal. But since Katie, 51, is the first woman ever to take the helm of a nightly news program, and solo at that, some are speculating that she is getting pushed out of the job due to low ratings. A Wall Street Journal story this month reported that “both CBS News executives and people close to Katie say that the ‘CBS Evening News’ anchor is likely to leave the network well before her contract expires in 2011 — possibly soon after the presidential inauguration early next year.”

Les Moonves, who hired Katie, showed his support with a visit to the CBS newsroom, saying, “There are no plans for a change — today, tomorrow and into the future.” Some speculate he just doesn’t want to fire Katie and admit he made a mistake in hiring her. Others say Katie shouldn’t have been offered the job in the first place. As a former morning show host, she pigeon-holed herself into “fluff” news and would never be taken seriously, no matter what network–and certainly not just because she is a woman.

Do you watch Katie? Why or why not? Should she stick with CBS or cut and run now?
