Oscars Bring Hot Mamas to the Red Carpet

My favorite part of Oscar night starts way before the show itself. I parked myself on the couch at 3:00pm in order to to scope out the gorgeous gowns and gems. The two prevailing colors of the night were black and red, nothing too shocking, but uber-glam. Here are my top celebumom looks of the night:

1. Jennifer Garner: Jen, mom of Violet, 2, decided to go with black this year, but her look was anything but basic. Designed by Oscar de la Renta, the bodice was tailored to show off her toned figure, and complemented the intricate layered skirt perfectly. A true red-carpet event pro, Jen chose to offset the black gown with diamonds upon diamonds by Van Cleef and Arpels. Jen wore a necklace, a bracelet, and earrings but she didn’t look over done. Her makeup was fresh–her brown-toned shadow made her eyes pop–and she kept her hair understated by simply sweeping it back into a messy bun. Jen captures my best dressed trophy. After being praised for her ensemble, Jen said she couldn’t take credit and gave kudos to her stylist, Rachel Zoe. “Don’t think for a second I could go into a store and pick this out!” she said.

The only thing missing for Jen last night was her hubby, Ben! And if anyone watched Oscar coverage on E!, you will know what I mean — actor Gary Busey interrupted Jen’s interview with Ryan Seacrest and kissed her on the neck, much to her dismay. Luckily, actress Laura Linney was on-hand to escort Jen away.

2. Keri Russell: Last night marked a fashion milestone for former “Felicity” star Keri Russell, mom of River, nine months. Typically, the actress errs on the side of simple but she pulled out the stops for the Oscars. Keri made her grey Nina Ricci gown look anything but drab. Her frock’s sweetheart necklace played up the actress’s petite figure and the mile-long train said, “star power.” Keri also took a chance this year by choosing big jewels. Jeweler H. Stern designed her multi-string, 46-carat diamond necklace, which was a nice change from Keri’s typically understated pendents and stud earrings. The whole outfit evoked royalty and old-Hollywood glamour, and I can’t wait to see how her style grows.

3. Jessica Alba: At first, I was a little on the fence about Jessica’s purple strapless Marchesa gown because of the feathery accents on the neckline. But when I got a closer look, I saw how gorgeous the rich color was against the mom-to-be’s glowing skin. Jessica has worn purple before, but last night she looked absolutely radiant in it. Jessica is in her third trimester now, and she dressed her body beautifully. The empire waistline of her gown showed of her new curves. Her simple up-do showed off her shoulders and complimented the frilly details on the top of her gown’s bodice. Jessica hasn’t redefined maternity wear the way Halle Berry has, so it was refreshing to see her grace the red-carpet last night in unapologetic mommy-to-be style.

Other celebumom dresses I loved: Kelly Preston‘s orange gown, Mrs. McDreamy Jill Fink’s red strapless dress, and of course, Heidi Klum’s red stunner.
