Ryan Phillippe Talks Divorce and Kids

May 13, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

The gorgeous Ryan Phillippe addressed some difficult topics on the Ellen Degeneres Show this week. Not many stars reference their divorces- especially when they are divorced from Academy Award winning, super-cute, American sweetheart-types like Reese Witherspoon. But Ryan did. It was all positive of course.

“Things are great,” he said of his relationship with the Reese. “It is so important as divorced parents to keep that connection. It makes the kids feel better that the parents are interacting. … We go to all the school events together, and we’re there for each other.”

Reese and Ryan are the parents of Ava, 10 and Deacon, 6. It is hard, he says, to be parents and entertainers, because you have such an inconsistent schedule. “From one week to the next you don’t know where you’re going to have to be for a promotional tour or on location. We’ve done a really good job with that, and our kids are happy and healthy and doing awesome.” Good for them.

We’ve also noticed they keep their kids out of the spotlight. When’s the last time you saw a tabloid shot of Ava or Deacon? Very impressive.

Ryan says he’s not really dating anyone seriously right now. Don’t get too excited though, “Sort of my emphasis right now is on the kids and career,” he says.  “I think it would be good for me to be single for a little bit. Yeah, find some focus, some personal focus.”
