Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Celebrate Son’s Baptism

The Affleck-Garner family celebrated two important milestones this weekend – the baptism of baby Samuel, and Ben and Jen’s eighth wedding anniversary.

The pair chose Garner’s family church, Christ Church United Methodist, in Charleston, West Virginia for their 16-month-old son’s baptism.

Samuel’s big sisters (Violet, 7, and Seraphina, 4) as well as Garner’s parents and sister were present for the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.

“He’s really cute. He was wearing little blue overalls,” a parishioner told PEOPLE. “He kept trying to high-five the pastor as he was getting baptized.”

But that wasn’t the only special moment of the weekend. The night before, Affleck, 40 and Garner, 41, had a low-key anniversary dinner of pizza, beer and salad at a local eatery, Pies & Pints.

“Ben and Jen like to come in when they’re in town,” owner Rob Lindeman told reporters. “They’re just really solid people. They seemed like they were having a great time.”

The couple has been very open about their ongoing dedication to their relationship. After his highly-publicized Oscar speech, in which he referred to his marriage as “work,” Affleck appeared on SNL to jokingly clarify his comments.

“Some uncharitable souls on the Internet took that to mean our marriage is some kind of manual labor. That’s not it. You define what’s important to you by what you dedicate your time to.”

He added,

“I want to tell you how I wish I had ended that speech: I couldn’t do any of the things I do without you, without your support. You’re my angel, my life, my world.”

We just love them and think it’s great to see a Hollywood couple so committed to each other and their family. Happy anniversary to Ben and Jen!
