Pikmin 2 for Wii – My Review

Our family tried out Pikmin 2 for Wii and I have to say, my kids loved it.

In the game, you take a spaceship to the planet of the Pikmin, where “a tiny explorer on a strange alien world, Captain Olimar must enlist the help of the curious Pikmin creatures to find treasure and save his company from financial ruin.” (That’s what it says on the back of the box.)

My kids tell me the objective is to find as much treasure as possible on the planet of the Pikmin. You can play as either Captain Olimar or Louie, who hail from the planet Hocotate, you’ll sail Olimar’s ship, the S.S. Dolphin to the planet of the Pikmin. Once you land in the Valley of Repose, Awakening Wood, Perplexing Pool, or Wistful Wild, you’re ready to start treasure-hunting!

Moms will love that the game is rated E for everyone and super family-friendly. And while it’s rated for everyone ages 3 and up, it doesn’t feel like it was produced exclusively for young children. The game has a fun and exciting premise and storyline and at only $19.99, it’s a great deal!

The planet of the Pikmin is simply adorable! Vivid colors and beautifully creative images give the game a fantastical element that is clearly the work of a sophisticated animation team. And just try not to giggle as you listen to the language of the Pikmin, which is filled with meeps, boops, and beeps. Forget the game, you’ll want a pet pikmin!

My kids like to fight about everything under the sun, so I also love that Pikmin 2 features a two-player cooperative play mode. Still curious about the planet of the Pikmin? Check out the “Pikmin Wiki,” where you can learn more about the characters, geographies, objectives, and adventures of the game.
