It’s that time of year again…back-to-school, you’re thinking??
Nope, not for this girl. I’m talking about football season!!! And I know what a lot of you are thinking:
“Ugh. Sundays with my husband sitting on the couch all day, not helping while I am stuck entertaining the kids. And let’s not forget about fantasy draft nights aka “parties” that last for hours, and all the wasted hours on the computer spending time checking out his many fantasy teams.”
You know what I think? I think girls can join in the fun too! And most men probably wouldn’t want me to tell you this, but have you ever thought to play fantasy football?!? Why not join in a league? Why should your man have all the fun, and always have football as an excuse for why he shouldn’t have to do weekend chores? Joining a league will not only get you more involved in the game and help you connect with other women, but it will give you and your guy a common ground.
I started playing fantasy football seven years ago when my husband and I were first dating. I watched football with him, but got annoyed when he kept going to the computer to check stats and to see who scored. Fantasy football isn’t just about the score of the game, but also which player scored – because that gives you the points for your own fantasy team. (This is before everything was instantly updated and you could get e-mail alerts on your phone and TV). But then I started a league with some of my friends, it didn’t take long before we were all hooked.
Try it! I promise there is something in it for everyone. If you are forced to watch football every Sunday, then why not enjoy it? Get some girlfriends, sisters, and neighbors together and start a Fantasy Football League. I mean, we’re joining book clubs and scrapbooking parties to sneak away for some “me” time so why not try a fantasy league with your friends?
