Movie Review: Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2

We all cuddled up on the couch. The whole family, my 3-year-old daughter, my 6-year-old son and yes even my husband, to watch Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2. Sometimes you need a good excuse to sit tight with your little ones and hold them close for a while. Turns out we all thought the movie was fun to watch together! My husband and I agreed the movie had a good story line.

As a mom, and one who tries to live consciously, I’m always on the look out for good life lessons in the television and movies my children are exposed to. We were pleasantly surprised that during Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2 there were quite a few great lessons! True worth isn’t measured in comparison to others. Life isn’t a competition. The classic mom/teenage daughter power struggle, and recognizing the need to allow your children to follow their passion. Cheating does not produce good results. The importance of standing your ground on things that are important. Not giving up. The value of risking everything to do what is right. Becoming your fullest self. And the insight that it is really special being a part of something bigger.

At the end of the movie I asked my son what he thought and his exact words were “I loved it!” My daughter expressed her desire for Barbie to come over for a play date. That night when my husband was tucking my son into bed, my little guy asked “Do you think Mommy will let us watch it again?” I’d say it was an all around hit.

Our family gives Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2 a thumbs up!
