Money You Did Not Even Know You Had

My friend e-mailed me last week to let me know that my husband had $8 in unclaimed money sitting with the State of California.  How did she know this?  The State of California has a unclaimed money website where you can type in a name and see if there is any money.  She had looked up herself along with friends and family.  After filling out a form and making a copy of indentification  our claim for the money was sent off.  $8 is $8!  I then had the thrill of finding money for a few friends of mine.  One had over $300!

To see if you have any unclaimed money, there are a few different places to check.

  • Use the website MissingMoney.com. It’s pretty easy; it takes just a few minutes and it’s free. All you have to do is type in your name and your state or province and see if your name pops up in their records.
  • Another website to check for any money that might be yours is Unclaimed.org. Click on a state or province and an official government search site will come up.
  • If you hold any old savings bonds you might have misplaced or forgot about, check out TreasuryDirect.gov. Click on the button called “Treasury Hunt.”

Remember to check all the states you have lived in, all the names you have had and check for family and friends as well.

Good Luck to you!

Blessings,

Katie
