Three Ways to Get in Shape at Home this Summer

July 13, 2012 by Madison Pados Leave a Comment

Unfortunately, now that the kids are out of school, “Mommy’s Work-Out Time” keeps getting curtailed or rain-checked for birthday parties, play dates, and plain-old being a mom.

Fear not!  Just because you can’t get to the gym doesn’t mean you can’t get a great workout at home.  We’ve got three great tips to take care of your rockin’ bod without leaving the house!

Transform Your Body with Brooke Burke

With two DVDs, you can get all the workout you need in for a week!  With the Strengthen and Condition DVD, Brooke takes you through a full-body practice to get your muscles working.  The more you engage your muscles, the more calories you burn (and keep burning throughout the day).  Be ready for a challenge with this workout, and have your hand weights ready.  The next DVD to round out your week of working out is titled Tone and Tighten.  Brooke works with two other ladies, one of which does modifications for lower intensity, to help you firm up what you’ve already got.  This is a good one to grow with.  Start by following the modified version and work up to following Brooke.  You’ll feel healthier and more vibrant almost immediately.

Brooke says, “It’s a workout that you can do at your own pace.  You can use the pause button if you need it, and you will grow stronger. But even more exciting, you will change your body and start feeling better about yourself. If you’re already fit, I promise you this workout is super challenging. It’s what I do, and I know what works.”

Baboosh Body Unisex Exercise Wrap

If you’re working toward that bikini, and need to amp up your ab workout, this is a great accompaniment.  The Baboosh Exercise Wrap is a neoprene/nylon band with a Velcro closure.  Before you start your workout, wrap the Baboosh around your waist so that it’s a snug fit.  It’s invisible under your clothes, so no one but you will know it’s there.  It’s great for any kind of workout.  You can try it with the Transform Your Body series, while you’re on a morning run, doing yoga, or while taking your kids for a pre-naptime walk.  The neoprene wrap helps you sweat away inches from your waist.

Lisa Rosenblatt, ModernMom co-CEO, loves it not only for helping her sweat through her workout but, “It also helps remind me to keep my abs tight, which strengthens my stomach muscles.”

Leandro Carvalho’s Brazil Butt Lift

It’s no secret that the women sunbathing in Brazil have some great looking “bum bums”  (pronounced “boom booms”).  We’ve all seen those thongs and wondered what their secret was.  No, not plastic surgery… this is a workout that fuses Latin dance moves with resistance band strength training.  The program focuses right in on the three muscle groups in your butt and hips to lift, tighten, and tone.  The program comes with 6 different workouts to get your booty geared up for short shorts!

Victoria’s Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio is quoted on the Brazil Butt Lift site as saying, “Leandro is just the best trainer for my butt – and for my abs, and for everything else – but especially my butt!  He came up with this whole workout just for my butt.  He is the best.”

Swimsuit season is upon us, and as much as we like to pretend we don’t care about how hot we look in that one-piece, it would still be awesome to turn a few heads at the beach.  Get your Mommy-time back and treat yourself to an awesome workout.  Not only will the endorphin rush power you through those late summer cookouts, you’ll be primed and ready to strut your stuff in that itsy bitsy teenie weenie bikini!
