Optimum Hoodia Ingredients

Optimum Hoodia is a dietary supplement designed to suppress your appetite and spur weight loss. Sold in both tablet and capsule form, Optimum Hoodia releases its natural suppressant gradually over a period of 24 hours, allowing your body to maintain a constant level of the substance throughout the day. No significant side effects have been reported with Optimum Hoodia use, and many people do claim to have succeeded in losing substantial amounts of weight. Optimum Hoodia contains one main active ingredient–powdered Hoodia gordonii–and a number of inactive ingredients.

Hoodia Gordonii

The active ingredient in Optimum Hoodia is the powdered juice extracted from Hoodia gordonii, a native African cactus that grows primarily in Namibia and South Africa. The Hoodia gordonii cactus has been eaten for centuries by African hunters in order to suppress their appetites before making trips into the Kalahari Desert. Each Optimum Hoodia tablet contains 1,000MG of pure, powdered Hoodia gordonii, making it the supplement with the highest concentration of the substance available on the market.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate is one of the ingredients in Optimum Hoodia, but don’t be frightened by its long chemical name: It’s simply an inert, tasteless compound commonly used by pharmaceutical manufacturers to even out the capsule weight of dietary supplements and medication tablets. The magnesium stearate also prevents the powdered Hoodia gordonii from forming clumps within the capsule.

Stearic Acid

Like magnesium stearate, stearic acid is an inactive ingredient in Optimum Hoodia. This saturated fatty acid is often used as a binder for the ingredients in dietary supplement tablets, and has the added benefit of functioning as a lubricant. Its purpose is only to make the Optimum Hoodia tablets easier to swallow–it doesn’t interfere with the function of the Hoodia gordonii in any way.

Methylcellulose

Methylcellulose is the edible, gelatin-like substance formed from cellulose that is used to shape the clear, tasteless outer coating of the Optimum Hoodia capsules. It does not cause allergic reactions and, although it degrades while in the digestive system, it cannot be fully digested.

Croscarmellose Sodium

Croscarmellose sodium belongs to a category of compounds that, when exposed to water, swell and dissolve. When you swallow a Hoodia gordonii capsule, the croscarmellose sodium ensures that the capsule will break apart quickly and dissolve in your digestive tract. It has no effect on the function or activity of the Hoodia gordonii extract.
