Pros & Cons Of Using Nutrisystem

The Nutrisystem diet plan has been touted by many celebrities as the way to lose those unwanted pounds. You turn on the television and see a beautiful star or singer singing the praises of a system that cost, in 2010, about $300 a month. Knowing the pros and cons of Nutrisystem will help you decide if the program is right for you.

Pro: Nutritionally Balanced

According to the Fox Business website, the Nutrisystem meal plans are nutritionally balanced. Some diet plans are created to help you lose weight as a short-term goal, but they do not give you the nutrients and minerals your body needs to stay healthy. In the long run, those diets cannot be sustained for any length of time if you want to remain healthy. Nutrisystem puts together meal plans in which all you add are vegetables and fruit and you know you are eating healthily. Nutrisystem also has a nutritionally balanced vegetarian program for those who wish to lose weight while remaining vegetarian.

Pro: Convenience

Nutrisystem is convenient; you do not have to determine what to eat for each meal. You also don’t have to do much cooking or preparation. You simply accept delivery of the prepackaged meals, keep plenty of cut-up fruits and vegetables on hand and enjoy. A microwave gets the meal ready in a few minutes, which also saves you time.

Pro: Consultation

Nutrisystem provides consultation for its customers. Not only do you choose from a menu of entrees, snacks and desserts to be delivered to your front door, but you can speak to a consultant about your concerns and questions and receive expert advice.

Con: Problem With Discipline

The Diet Rate website points out that Nutrisystem does not stop you from going to the grocery store. You have to purchase fruits and vegetables to partner with your delivered meals. At the store, you may have trouble maintaining your diet discipline. It is important to steer away from the candy and cookie aisle while picking up your fruits and vegetables.

Con: Run Out of Choices

When you have an entire month’s worth of food delivered at once, you will probably eat your most-favorite dishes first and leave those that you are not so excited about until later. This can mean that during the last week of the month you are stuck eating several of your least favorite entrees; this can make the diet hard to stick with, putting you at risk for going off Nutrisystem and eating too many calories.

Con: Expense

Some people may find that the Nutrisystem plan is out of their financial comfort zone. With an average cost of $300 a month in 2010, there are people who either cannot pay for it or they feel it is too expensive.
