DIY Mod Podge Leaf Centerpiece

November 23, 2013 by Jessie Daye Leave a Comment

Over at Lilyshop, we’re big fans of Mod Podge – it’s a crafting supply staple.

I was trying to figure out how to use my glitter Mod Podge technique and make it all Thanksgiving-y and then this popped into my head! What if I Mod Podged leaves!? Yup it worked and they are not only beautiful but they last forever now!

Supplies

  • Mod Podge
  • Red and yellow food coloring
  • Glitter
  • Leaves

Directions

In a paper bowl, mix together 1 cup of Mod Podge, 1 drop of red food coloring, 2 drops of yellow food coloring, and 2-3 tablespoons of colored glitter. I used burnt orange glitter.

If you choose not to use the food coloring your leaves will just be all glittery with the color of the actual leave behind the mod podged glitter. I did my leaves both ways so they all looked unique like real leaves.

Using a paint brush, paint one side of your leaf. Make sure to get all the way to the edges of the leaf. It’s best to hold the leaf in the air while doing this. Lay your leaf down on a piece of wax paper to dry. Any paint on the back of the leaf will stick so make sure you have only coated one side.

The paint will look white when you paint it. See how the edges are starting to turn color already?

They will slowly start to dry and show the real color. Beautiful right!?

Here are the pieces with no food coloring. Once dry, I like to paint the other side so I they keep forever. The Mod Podge completely incases them.

Now you are free to decorate with the leaves! I used double stick tape and stuck them to a hurricane with a candle inside then wrapped them with a little bit of twine so it looked finished.
