U.S. Government Demands Toyota Recall Documents

According to CNN, government regulators demanded Tuesday that Toyota produce documentation of their recent recalls.

Federal law requires all auto manufacturers to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration within five days of discovering a problem. The US is currently determining if the automaker conducted the recall in a timely matter.

CNN reported that Ray LaHood, the U.S. Transportation Secretary, stated,  "Safety recalls are very serious matters and automakers are required to quickly report defects."

Toyota has recalled over 8 million vehicles in past months.
