Fun Date Ideas for Couples

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Whether you’ve been together for a few weeks or a few years, every couple can use new and exciting date ideas. The key is thinking about what you and your date like and combining those likes into an experience that you can share together. So, nix the movie and dinner plans and try one of these dates the next time you want to spice up your love life.

Get Moving

A date filled with your favorite shared physical activity, such as a round of tennis, swimming, hiking or just taking a long walk on the beach may heat up your love life. According to a study done by the University of British Columbia, women who exercised for at least 20 minutes showed greater sexual response than women who didn’t get physical. This is because physical activity boosts feel-good hormones in the body. If you decide on this type of date, make sure to keep it romantic. Do the activity with just each other and make sure to pack a snack and some drinks to share afterwards.

Get Away

If you are a couple that has been together a while, you may find that you give more face time to the TV or computer screen than to your lover. The best way to revive intimacy is to get away from electronics with a get-away-date. Choose a night or a weekend were you can leave the laptop, cell phone and fax machine and choose an out-of-the-way place you can take your love. Some ideas are a renting a cabin by the lake, camping or booking a room at a bed and breakfast. Take only items that can be used together like board games, lingerie and bubble bath.

Get Local

For truly unusual dates, check your local paper for events happening in your area. You may find that a local farm is having a pick-your-own produce day, an organization is having a corn maze and haunted house, a church is having a concert or the local children’s theater is performing a play. You never know what kind of gem you will find that could make an interesting date. An event may sound hokey at first, but you might find that halfway through the date you and your mate are having a fantastic time. Even laughing at the lameness of a bad event can turn out to be a special memory.
