The Best Cruise Ship for Couples

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Sailing across a crystal blue ocean, walking along the deck under a moonlit sky, visiting exotic places; these are just a few of the reasons that cruises are considered romantic getaways. Everyone has a different idea of what makes a cruise romantic, but the SeaDream Yacht Club has more of what couples are looking for on a cruise.

Casual Luxury

The SeaDream Yacht Club has two ships, the “SeaDream I” and the “SeaDream II,” both offering identical features and amenities. The Cruise Critic picked this cruise as the most romantic, with beautiful ships, fantastic service and unbelievable dining. Though there is a posh country club feel to SeaDream ships, the attitude is one of casual luxury, leaving passengers feeling pampered.

Accommodations

There are three types of accommodations on SeaDream ships. The standard room has 195 square feet, with a separate sitting room; although the bath is small, it has a shower big enough for two. The Commodore Club is a combination of two of the standard rooms. The Owner’s Suite is the most glamorous, with a beautiful windowed bathroom. All rooms have luxurious linens, comfortable mattresses and high-tech entertainment.

Dining

Unlike traditional cruise ships, with their assigned seating, SeaDream ships offer open seating all the time. The ship has two main dining locations: the Main Dining Salon, an elegant restaurant, and the Topside Restaurant, with open-air seating. All varieties of foods, including vegetarian, are served on board and 24-hour room service is available.

Entertainment

SeaDream ships don’t have big Vegas-like shows for passengers’ entertainment. The ships show movies and have a lounge for dancing, a small casino and a Piano Bar. The ships have a marina and will dock so that passengers can enjoy water sports, including banana boats and personal watercraft. For those who love the indulgence of a spa, there is the Asian Spa on board.

All-Inclusive Fare

Don’t worry about trying the extras on this cruise. Everything–food, alcohol, watercraft, spa, room service and gratuities–is included in the price.
