Good Food for a Woman’s Sexual Health

January 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Your guy is a demon in the sheets but you are never in the mood, never able to enjoy yourself or having problems staying energized during sex. How can you keep up? Improving your sexual health can be as easy as simply enjoying these five foods on a regular basis. Become the goddess you have always imagined yourself being or once were…

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like spinach, chard and kale are rich in iron, folic acid and antioxidants. The iron helps to improve blood flow and the folic acid helps to rebuild the neurotransmitters in the brain. Together this heightens sensitivity and boosts endurance. Additionally, the antioxidants aid in keeping your adrenal glands healthy, an important part of hormone regulation.

Herbs

The savory smell of an herby pesto or spicy curry may be enough to get a foodie into bed. However, some fragrant herbs may do more than just set the mood. Basil, for instance, increases blood flow and boosts fertility according to chef and Certified Clinical Nutritionist Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo. Other herbs like maca root and cardamom work well to improve sex drive and stamina. Furthermore, garlic reportedly increases sensitivity and arousal.

Oatmeal

While oatmeal is more likely to evoke memories of grandma than the bedroom, this fiber-rich breakfast has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. Oatmeal is full of an amino acid called L-arginine. Urologist Dr. Jennifer Berman claims that this acid helps a person to become aroused more easily. If you take a long time to get warmed up then oatmeal may be the answer. Granola, pasta and pine nuts are also good sources of L-arginine.

Seafood

Oysters, mussels and clams are rich in zinc which boosts testosterone levels. Rest assured, you will not sprout a mustache from eating too much zinc. Be that as it may, your boosted testosterone levels will improve your libido. Fish are also a great addition. The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish like salmon and halibut increases blood flow and helps to build sex hormones. Furthermore, seaweed acts as a leafy green. Basically, if you see something from the ocean in your grocery store, it may be a good idea to pick some up.

Vanilla Ice Cream

The smell of vanilla alone is considered somewhat of an aphrodisiac. Something about a cold ice cream kiss may help as well. However, it’s the phosphorus and calcium in vanilla ice cream that is good for a woman’s sexual health. These minerals improve endurance during sex and make orgasms more powerful. Additionally, a great orgasm will typically lead to more frequent bouts of sex.
