Sports-Theme Decor for a Baby Room

March 30, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Decorating a nursery isn’t limited to baby animals and Disney characters. Other themes work well, too, including sports. Fans can easily bring their love of the game into a baby’s room.

Celebrate Sports or Root for the Home Team

Decide which teams or sports to celebrate. Some parents choose a general theme of wallpapered basketballs, footballs and baseballs. Others highlight a favorite sport or even favorite team.

Walls: They Aren’t Just for Painting Anymore

Go beyond traditional pink, blue and yellow paint. Choose your team’s colors, or paint a mural of your favorite field, court or stadium. Combine a neutral color with peel-and-stick wall adhesives that are easily removed and reapplied.

Hit Homeruns With Accessories

Football-shaped lamps and baseball bookends bring a nursery to life. Hang pictures of sports icons. Decorate your own frame and fill it with a picture of you and your baby attending a first sporting event.

Bedding

Crib sheets and bumpers come in a variety of sports themes. Stuffed animals wearing team jerseys look adorable, but, for safety reasons, do not place them in the crib.

Girls Are Fans, Too

Sports aren’t just for boys! Stencil purple and white soccer balls onto your daughter’s walls. Frame a pink jersey from your favorite team. Use a basketball nightlight.
