Beautiful Styles for Long Hair

Long hair can be both a blessing and a curse. People may compliment you on your beautiful hair, but you may wake up in the morning feeling that you have no idea how to style it. If you have long hair, there are plenty of quick, simple ways to style your hair as well more elaborate hairstyles for those occasions when you want to dress up.

Get Long, Elegant Waves

Wavy hair does not have to bring to mind the harsh crimped hairdos of the 1980s. You can have waves in your hair. To give you hair gentle, flowing waves, wrap a 2-inch wide section your hair around a wide-barrel curling iron. Wrap the hair in a figure-8 pattern, being careful not to tangle it. Spray the hair with a bit of hair spray and hold in the iron for up to 15 seconds. Release the hair and repeat until you have a head of beautiful wavy hair.

A Braid for All Occasions

Braiding long hair is a great way to get it off of your face when you are exercising or doing work. A loosely braided ponytail is practical but still pretty. Braids are also a great way to style your hair for a party or other event. For a more interesting take on the traditional French braid, try braiding only the upper portion of your hair, letting the rest of it fall in an elegant pony tail down your back. You can also try styling your hair so that two small braids run along the side of your head and meet in the back.

The Layered Look

Next time you get a haircut, ask your stylist to give you long layers that start just above the shoulder in the front and reach down your back. You can wear long layers two ways. If you prefer to keep your long hair super straight and sleek, run a straightening iron through your hair to smooth out any kinks. You can part your hair down the center or slightly to the side. If you just can’t stand to have any hair on your face, tuck it out of the way using a plain bobby pin.

If you want softer, gentler layers, loosely wrap sections of your hair around a wide curling iron. Hold around the iron for a few seconds, then release. Apply mousse to your roots to add volume to your hair, which also makes it appear softer.
