Fashion Tips for Plus Size Women

Many voluptuous women want to strut their stuff like their skinny-mini counterparts, but they lack the confidence in their dressing abilities. While picking the perfect outfit does present an added challenge for a plus-sized woman, being full-figured does not mean that you have to hide yourself in layers of fabric or to don black frocks day after day. With careful consideration of your assets, and a little creativity, you can dress with style, regardless of your size.

Start with an Undergarment

An undergarment can create a canvas upon which you can build your fashion masterpiece. If you, like many plus-sized women, are particularly well-endowed, invest in a bra that fits properly. If your tummy has a little more roundness than you would like, downplay this pleasantly plump section with a tummy control top or panties. Until you have your undergarment situation corrected, you will continue to struggle to make your clothes fit just right.

Pick Something with Shape

All too many full-figured women opt for a shapeless sack, in hopes of hiding their trouble areas. While this practice certainly prevents people from seeing your problem spots, it also stops them from seeing your more shapely sections. When selecting an outfit, consider the area that you would like to highlight, and pick a garment that features that area. As everyone looks at what a great waist, bust, bottom or hips you have, they won’t even have time to notice the areas that you feel are flawed.

Venture Away from Black

Being plus sized should not limit your color wearing options. While black is slimming, so is any monochromatic outfit. Trade your black top and pants for a red or aqua outfit, and bring some excitement and color back into your wardrobe.

Don’t Squeeze Into It

Just because you can make it button does not mean it fits. If you try to squeeze into a garment, you are not likely to achieve a desirable result. Don’t focus on the sizes too much when you shop. If you go into a store thinking that you are a 16 and that you are not willing to try on anything that is not a 16, you will likely not have a fruitful visit. If it doesn’t fit comfortably, it likely doesn’t look good as well.

Have It Tailored

Instead of searching in vain for clothes that fit you perfectly, buy clothes that do not fit and have them tailored. Purchase a pair of pants and a blazer that are just a bit on the large side, and take them to an area tailor. This specialist can custom fit the garment to your body, ensuring that you receive the perfect look from your newly purchased wardrobe pieces.

Draw Attention with Accessories

Use accessories to pull people’s eyes to the areas that you want to highlight. If you have a shapely bosom, wear a long necklace that leads to this area. Likewise, if your waist is your prized possession, invest in an attention getting belt to catch the attention of others.
