Tips to Grow Thick Hair

June 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Many women lust after the thick, luxuriating hair they see resting atop the heads of well-coiffed celebrities. Some women are naturally blessed with enviable locks. However, if you are not one of these lucky few, no need to despair. With effort and attention, you can increase the quantity and quality of your hair, allowing you to create hairdos that look more like what you see on the red carpet.

Stay Stress Free

The most important change you can make to increase your hair thickness might not appear to have anything to do with your locks at all. By working to reduce your stress, you can decrease the likelihood that you will lose hair, allowing you to maintain the fullness that you currently possess. Excessive stress is one of the leading causes of hair loss, reports the Skin Care Beauty Zone website. Don’t fall victim to avoidable hair loss; instead, take time to relax daily, and try not to stress the small stuff. You might also take up meditation or another stress reduction program.

Brush Gently

Brushing your hair should not be a painful process. If you find yourself ripping your hairbrush through your tresses daily, you could be doing serious damage and leading to hair loss. When you brush, do so gently. If you hit a knot, do not just grit your teeth and push through. Instead, stop and tend to the knot tenderly You can even turn brushing into a hair positive by completing a nightly regimen of 100 strokes before going to bed. Along with leaving your locks completely untangled, this habit promotes health and stimulates growth, reports the Daily Glow website.

Keep It Natural

While dyes and harsh chemicals temporarily provide you with a pleasing hair change, they can lead to hair damage and loss. Your hair will be more healthy if you resist the urge to modify it chemically, and instead make the most of your hair’s natural hue and texture.

Start the Day with a Vitamin

Along with being good for your body, vitamins are also beneficial for your hair. Many vitamins, including vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C, have been shown to promote hair health and lead to the growth of fully, more luxurious hair, reports the Skin Care Beauty Zone website. Mixing a vitamin into your daily routine is an easy and quick way to promote the growth of thick hair.

Pack in the Protein

Protein is another double-duty nutrient. Just as your body needs protein for proper development and functioning, your hair needs this power-packed nutrient to remain healthy. Eat foods high in protein, such as chicken or beef, or take a protein supplement if your diet is noticeably lacking in protein. To get your protein without eating meat, you can also try wheat germ sprinkled on your cereal or mixed in a morning smoothie, reports the Skin Care Beauty Zone website.
