At-Home Beauty Tips

June 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Sure, you can walk into your local salon looking like a cave dweller and walk out resembling a stunning, beauty queen. However, keeping your salon-fresh appearance may seem almost impossible. Remember, these cosmetology professionals spend countless hours studying the art of making you look your best, and unless you are a celebrity with personal makeup artists, you may find it difficult to maintain your look at home. Looking your best requires a routine that you can accomplish at home without daily visits to the beauty spa.

Exfoliate Dead Skin Cells

Use a clean washcloth buff your face gently with your favorite cleanser. Although many women forego washcloths for fear that they harbor germs, you can safely use freshly laundered ones each time you wash.

Soften Dry Feet

Rub a little petroleum jelly into your rough, dry heels and calluses before heading to bed. After your nightly bath or shower, dry your feet and apply a thin layer of this emollient to rough areas of skin. Massage in gently and pull on a pair of socks. Allow the petroleum jelly to remain on your skin overnight.

Add Shine to Your Locks

A wonderful, culinary ingredient in your kitchen, vinegar plays a dual purpose in the care of your hair. Mix one part of apple cider vinegar with one part of warm water. Wash your hair and rinse well. Apply the diluted vinegar over your damp hair before exiting your shower. This home treatment adds bounce and shine to your hair.

Focus on Food

Like most women, you probably enjoy eating. Make sure you eat the right kinds of foods to boost your beauty. Consuming antioxidants, such as those found in berries, can protect your skin from environmental toxins, while leafy greens and whole grains can help produce new skin cells and maintain your skin’s collagen fibers. Include blueberries and strawberries in your morning cereals or smoothies. Consume more spinach, sunflower seeds and bran flakes.
