Hair & Face Beauty Tips

June 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Taking good care of your face and hair not only helps you feel and look better, but it also encourages your kids to adopt good health habits early in life. Whether you have a skin or hair problem or hope to avoid such beauty blunders, magazines like “Marie Claire Magazine” and “Cosmopolitan Magazine” and health professionals with the Mayo Clinic offer plenty of tips that you can start using right away.

Make Your Own Facial Masks

You can make your own facial masks in your kitchen and better control what ingredients come into contact with your skin, according to “Marie Claire Magazine.” The organic banana face mask and the honey and papaya lightening mask are just two options modern moms can quickly whip up without a lot of added expense or time. To create your own organic banana mask, you’ll need to mash half a banana with 1 tbsp. orange juice and 1 tbsp. honey. Mix these ingredients and apply it to your face for about 15 minutes. Wash the mask away with lukewarm water. If you’re not happy with the pigmentation of your skin, then try the honey and papaya lightening mask instead. This blend includes 2 tbsp. honey and 1/2 cup ripe, mashed papaya fruit. Place this mixture onto your face for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then wash it away with lukewarm water to even out your skin tone.

Change Your Diet

There is no proof that pudding causes problems for your skin, but plenty of scientific evidence does support that healthy diet promotes clearer and younger-looking skin, according to the Mayo Clinic. Moms who ingest plenty of vitamin C, lean meats, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products are less prone to unwanted acne. Also, be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

Use Good Shampoo

Use only a quality shampoo on your tresses to promote good hair health, according to “Cosmopolitan Magazine” and “Marie Claire Magazine.” Some moms will probably want to avoid quality shampoos that just don’t smell pleasant or contain potentially harsh cleansers. “Cosmopolitan Magazine” recommends brands like Herbal Essences Hydralicious if you want your hair to feel great while smelling good. “Marie Claire Magazine” advises moms to purchase shampoos, such as Phyto, Lavett & Chin, Ojon and Aveda, that contain only natural cleansers.
