Easy Styles for Long Hair

July 27, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Some mornings, you just don’t have time to fuss with your long hair. You need a hairstyle that you can do and go. Fortunately, if you have long hair, you’ll have many options available to you. From casual to formal, you can be ready to go in no time at all.

Headbands, Hats and Scarves

When you need something quick, look for a headband, a hat or a scarf. When looking at a headband, choose one that’s hard–the elastic ones have a tendency to slip up, creating a strange bump at the back of your head. With a scarf, you can fold it into a triangle and use it like a bandana, covering your full head. You can also fold or scrunch it to form a headband that you tie around your head.

Ponytails

Ponytails are an easy way to get your long hair out of your face. You can pull it back into a low ponytail or a high one. To give your ponytail more body, don’t fully pull it through on the last loop of the rubber band. This creates a loop of your hair. Making two ponytails can look too young, unless you make two low ponytails. You can also pull just the front of your hair into a ponytail in the back, which creates a romantic look.

Down

When you don’t have much time, just wear your hair down. Depending on your hair’s texture, you may want to add hair products to help it look good. If you have long, straight hair, a bit of volumizing mousse can add depth to your hair. Blow drying it upside down can give you a bit of wave and make it look as though you just came back from the beach. If your hair is curly, apply a curl enhancer and let it hair dry. Don’t worry about straightening it.

Braids

Once you learn how to do it, a French braid can be a good way to pull back your hair. You can also make a single braid in the back, but two braids on the side may look too childish. Try taking small sections from the front of your hair, braiding them and then pulling it back for a soft look.

Easy Elegance

For an easy, but elegant look, pull your hair back into a bun or a French twist, securing it with hair pins. Some hair pins have small flowers or other decorations on them, which can add to the effect. Pull a few hairs out in front to frame your face.
