How to Increase Male Semen Volume & Fertility

July 27, 2016 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Many couples experience problems with infertility. Even couples who previously conceived children may have trouble conceiving again. Many things can cause infertility. Factors that affect men, as well as those that affect women, can contribute to problems with fertility. Men may experience a reduction in sperm or semen, leading to a reduced ability for their sperm to fertilize an egg. While some fertility problems require medical intervention, lifestyle changes may help improve sperm production and fertility.

Step 1
Step on the scale. Your body weight may affect your ability to produce healthy sperm. The Mayo Clinic advises that too much or too little fat can disrupt your hormone levels. While weight extremes may increase the amount of abnormal sperm your body produces, a healthy weight may help you produce plenty of high-quality sperm.

Step 2
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Whether you need to gain weight, lose weight or just focus on healthy food choices, a diet rich in fresh produce can help you meet your goals. In addition to vitamins and fiber, fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that may improve the health of your sperm, increasing your fertility. Use these nutritious foods to replace unhealthy snacks and meal choices.

Step 3
Reduce the amount of alcohol and caffeine you consume. Both these ingredients reduce your chances of producing adequate amounts of semen and healthy sperm. Substitute non-alcoholic drinks for your usual beer or cocktails and choose herbal teas or plain water over coffee. Check labels for hidden sources of caffeine in items, such as chocolates and cola drinks.

Step 4
Exercise on a regular basis. Join a health club or take up an enjoyable sport. Regular walks can also increase your level of physical fitness. Use exercise to increase your overall health and provide a healthy outlet for stress and anxiety. Keep your exercise at an enjoyable level. Exercising to the point of exhaustion may decrease the quality of your sperm.

Step 5
Schedule an appointment with your doctor. If you and your wife don’t conceive after a year of trying, you may require tests to determine the cause of infertility. According to the American Urological Association, as many as 15 to 20 percent of couples experience infertility. Your doctor may be able to diagnose and treat your infertility, helping you to conceive a child.

Warnings
Use caution when considering alternative therapies and supplements to treat your infertility. Talk to your usual medical doctor before trying alternative medicines or treatments.
