Cool Birthday Party Ideas for a 4-Year-Old Girl

August 23, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Fairies flit and fly, resembling the bouncing energies of 4-year-old girls. They also drip with glitter and bright colors, characteristics every girl will love. When your little girl turns 4, plan a fairy party for her and her friends. Whether you choose a famous fairy character or a generic fairy theme, you can create a spirited party all her friends will love.

Locations

The venue you choose will set the mood for a fairy party. Investigate parks and gardens around you to house your little fairies for the afternoon. Botanical gardens or public parks may be home to little nuggets of inspiration, but private places, like your backyard or a wooded area around your home, may allow you to tread off the beaten path, where fairies naturally dwell. Clear a small space for a picnic blanket or let everyone sit on a log or stumps, depending on the resources of the area.

Outfits

Invite guests to come to the party in their best fairy wear. This might include a pastel or brightly colored leotard or tutu. A little dress with leggings will also suit a fairy’s taste. A fairy’s most important assets are her wings. Purchase a pair at a costume or Halloween store or make a pair out of bent hanger wire and tulle.

Food

Create a menu fit for a fairy. Choose delicate flavors that won’t overwhelm or offend a fairy’s sensitive palate. Lemon- or berry-flavored desserts are light and bright. Top treats with a dollop of whipped cream. Serve a sweet drink, such as lemonade, with berries floating around in it. The organic mixture makes it seem like it has been put together in the forest. Serve snacks and drinks in clear containers to showcase the lovely colors.

Activities

Games might include attaching a wand to a fairy’s hand, much like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. You can play musical chairs, or musical tree stumps, using flighty, plinky piano music. Invite a family member or friend who has studied some ballet to come and teach your fairies some simple ballet moves. Let them practice their moves as they flit around the area.

Favors

When girls arrive, you can finish their outfits with some fairy accessories that they can bring home, as a memento of your party. Attach stars to the top of small dowels to create wands. You can even let your fairies decorate them with glitter, ribbon and gems.
