Easy Birthday Party Ideas for 9-Year-Olds

Nine-year-olds can be a tough bunch when it comes to birthday parties. They’ve done the traditional birthday parties a few times and may be a bit disenchanted with your ideas. They are still a little too young for an all-out bash, but they still deserve a fun birthday party. Take advantage of your area’s local attractions for some help to make this party a breeze.

Location, Location, Location

Sorry, Mom, but those backyard picnics just aren’t going to cut it anymore. This year, you need to take the party on the road to impress your little preteen and his friends. You don’t have to go far, though. These guys don’t have a car or other mode of transportation, so even a short getaway can be inviting.

Growing Up

According to the National Network for Child Care, around the age of 9, children start to get interested and dream about what they want to be when they grow up. You can make the most of this interest by taking kids on field trips for their birthday party. Imagine a firemen party or a chef’s party. Let them explore their dreams for a day.

Guests

If you are going to be taking the party to a destination, you may want to limit the guest list. Even though they are starting to feel older, 9-year-olds can still be children and may run off or act up sometimes. Limit the number and extent of problems by inviting just a handful of her close friends.

Inspired Activities

Let the kids participate in structured activities at the location, if they are available. For instance, children’s museums may have some scheduled activities or shows. You may even wish to set up a special field trip, just for your kids. Kids will enjoy listening to their heroes, who are working in their favorite fields, and checking out their daily activities.

Free Time

Museums, zoos and aquariums give children an opportunity to explore on their own. They will love the freedom, but they will require supervision. Make sure you recruit enough adults or older children to go along with each small group of children. Schedule a specific time and place to meet together again.

Hand Over the Reins

Some places, such as museums, offer birthday party packages. This makes it much easier for you. Meals, drinks, favors, decorations, the venue and the activities are all taken care of with the writing of a check.
