Patrick Dempsey Earns Another Nickname McGiver!
The “Grey’s Anatomy” actor, and dad of three Patrick Dempsey, showed his philanthropic side this week when he unveiled a cancer center in his name at the Central Maine Medical Center, in his hometown of Lewiston.
The actor, now commonly known as McDreamy, says he was inspired after his mother successfully overcame ovarian cancer at the hospital. “For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming,” he said. “A lot of the websites I went to just didn’t have enough information.
The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will open on March 31, offering education and support programs for cancer patients and their families. Patrick not only provided funds for the center, he will also take part in a public education campaign about cancer prevention and detection. His sister Mary will run the center.
