Toss That Salad! Ready Pac Recalls Bagged Salad Products

Ready Pac Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled 5,739 cases of bagged salad products containing Romaine lettuce because of potential E. coli contamination.

The California based company issued the recall after a a random sample yielded a positive result for E.coli O157:H7. It includes some types of Ready Pac, Raley’s, Trader Joe’s and Safeway Farms bagged salad.

Affected products have a “Use-by Date” of November 18, 2011, and were sold in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. No other Ready Pac Foods products are included in this recall.

E.coli is a common cause of food poisoning. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, vomiting and low fever. While most healthy adults recover within a few days, the infection can be life threatening for young children and elderly people.

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products should toss that salad and contact Ready Pac Consumer Affairs at (800) 800-7822 for a refund. For more information, visit the FDA website.
